Location Information

The Barren Fork is a scenic and mostly slow moving 23.4-mile-long tributary of the Collins River that meanders through Cannon, Coffee, and Warren Counties in Middle Tennessee. The river is restricted by a historic hydroelectric dam. Slackwaters north of the dam are very slow moving, while those south of the dam are faster – especially those nearest it.

Paddling out from Riverfront Park, which lies well north of the dam, paddlers find a gentle near-lake-like float, forested banks, rocky outcroppings and undercuts, and some small waterfalls. With bream, bluegill, rainbow trout, rock bass, smallmouth bass, walleye and catfish, fishing is a prime activity.

It is imperative that paddlers stay a safe distance away from the dam. Currents there increase in strength and can be deadly. Paddlers must follow all postings and alerts and use common sense. The local area is known to periodically flood. Floodwaters can rise quickly and are not safe for any form of boating activity.
