Please do not paddle in inclement weather. If the weather conditions are not favorable and you are currently paddling and are away from the HIVE kiosk, return to the kiosk immediately OR shelter in a safe place and call 9-1-1 to begin a foul weather rescue. Remember to always check the forecast before you leave. All rental activities are at your own risk. Please paddle responsibly.
Life jackets are included in your rental, and every paddler is responsible for making sure their personal floatation device (PFD) is on their kayak throughout their adventure. Children under 13 are required to wear their PFD continuously while on the water.
Rental is only permitted at water temperatures above 15°C (59°F). Hours and periods of rental availability reflect expected temperatures and other location constraints.Rental days are scheduled based on historical trends and publicly available data. We cannot guarantee, nor do we set or control any water temperature. Days of operation are based on historical water temperatures in the region and guidance from safety organizations. While no finite reckoning or determination can be made, it is our aim to only allow rentals when water temperatures are suitable for on-water paddling recreation that does not require wet suits.
Renters are obliged to follow all applicable boater safety laws. Renters and/or minor participants are solely responsible for any citation or violation occurring during the use of, oras the result of using, paddlecraft and equipment rented.
Be familiar with, self- and buddy rescue techniques such as the Paddle Float Rescue (re-entering your kayak solo using your paddle float for stability), and swimming and reentry (swimming your kayak to shore or re-entering in deep water). We take safety seriously. Before you hit the water, create a plan and let someone staying behind know your itinerary. The plan should include contact information for all individuals going out, the intended route, and what to do in case of emergency or non-arrival at the estimated return time. Equipment FAQs
Each rental includes a kayak, paddle, dry waterproof bag, and personal flotation device (PFD/life jacket)
Type III Coast Guard-approved life jackets are provided in Youth and Universal Adult sizes. Child, infant, extra-large, or other specialized life jackets are not provided and are theresponsibility of the renter(s) to source and properly use.
The specific paddle craft offerings are specific to each site, however, most sites offer both single and tandem (double) kayaks. All of our kayaks are sit-on-top kayaks. All our kayaks are well-maintained and suitable for different skill levels.
Our kayaks are quite stable so most of the time paddlers and their things are able to stay dry while on the water. We also provide a dry bag with each kayak rental for your use.
Pets are allowed on tandem kayaks. Fishing gear is permitted. All anglers must follow local fishing regulations.
All adult renters are financially responsible for lost or damaged equipment utilized by anyone in their party. All equipment must be inspected by the renter(s) before use, and any observed damage reported to 1 (888) 589-9435. Damage, breakdowns, malfunctions, or losses mustbe immediately reported.Renters bear all risks of responsibility of and for any and all damage, loss, or theft of the paddlecraft and equipment, or any portions thereof.If rented equipment is not returned, is stolen, or is damaged, customers may be charged the full current replacement cost to include, but not be limited to ordering, preparation, shipping/delivery, down time, and set-up.Determination of condition and cost to cure are the sole purview of HIVE PaddleSports.Equipment theft will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.By renting, you agree to be liable for any damage or loss to the paddlecraft or equipment and authorize us to charge your credit card accordingly. The credit card on file enables enforcement. If the credit card on file cannot be charged, HIVE PaddleSports has the right to invoice the renter by email and/or any mail or delivery service. Payment of the invoice mustbe prompt and remitted within 10 days.In some HIVE locations, a Damage Waiver Add-on is available for an additional charge (see website for details).
Should the paddlecraft and equipment not be ready and available for rent (either missing or unusable) please alert us at 1 (888) 589-9435.
Renters and/or participants are solely responsible for their personal belongings. Do not store valuables in the HIVE cell.
- All equipment may only be utilized on the local water body and may not be taken off site.- All equipment may only be used for its designated and designed purposes- All equipment may only be used by the renter or minor participants that are the responsibility of the renter.- Equipment must be returned to the place where it was picked up and organized and stowed correctly.- Equipment must be returned in the same condition as received, with normal wear and tear accepted.- Equipment must be returned clean. A cleaning fee will be charged, if required.

A least one person in a rental party must be 18 years of age or older. The primary adult renter, aged eighteen or older, must present a valid government-issued photo ID via digital photo upload as part of the reservation process.
Adult supervision is required. Children under 7 must be accompanied in a two-person kayak. Children over 7 may solo kayak with a concurrent adult rental.

Late returns are subject to additional charges. Please allow sufficient time to properly secure all equipment and activate the Smart Padlock prior to expiration of the rental period – there is a good chance another paddler will be anxiously waiting for their outdoor adventure to start.Each rental is for a discrete time. All equipment must be returned to its HIVE cell prior to theexpiration of that period. Usage beyond that period will incur a $50 penalty plus a 1-hour automatic renewal at the current 1-hour rental rate. If you become aware you will be late in returning, please call us at 1 (888) 589-9435 so we can assist you and other renters who may be impacted.
Once a rental is confirmed and payment is processed, it is final.No refunds can be made for cancellations or no-shows.Given the variability and uncontrollable nature of weather that could impact outdoor activities, no refunds can be made for weather concerns. If weather conditions are dangerous, orsuspect, do not rent and do not paddle. As an alternative, you may want to use code“WASHOUT” at one of our local partners for discounts on dining and other purchases (subject to availability).Should the paddlecraft and equipment not be ready and available for rent (either missing or unusable) please alert us at 1 (888) 589-9435.Management reserves the right to offer refunds, alternative paddlecraft, or credits for future use on a case-by-case basis. Any remunerative refunds may take up to 14 business days forcredit card processing and will be net of all processing fees.Refunds are processed through Stripe, our secure payment provider, and may take up to 14 business days to appear on your account depending on your bank.

No experience is required! Kayaking is a safe and enjoyable activity for all skill levels. We recommend browsing our safety materials and familiarizing yourself with your paddle location before you go.
